Modifier 53 on 1st aborted proc, what modifer on 2nd-diff approach??

I still think you would use modifier -78 because the dr didn't intend/planned to abort the procedure. The pt had an unexpected drop in blood pressure. To me the dr would never begin the procedure if he knew pt's blood pressure was very low. Pt blood pressure was probably stable at the time...

Here is a really good website to look at about the new changes for 2012 it mentions the new PLIF/TLIF codes. http://www.beckersorthopedicandspine.com/orthopedic-spine-practices-billing-coding/item/10003-important-2012-cpt-coding-changes-to-asc-spine--pain-management-procedures

Yes the new codes 22633/ 22634 does replace 22612/ 22630. In other words you can not bill out 22612 and the 22630 together UNLESS done on separate levels of the spine. If perform on the same level use 22633/22634. So you would code 22633 22634 x 2 22842 22851 20936 20930 If the your doctor...

    Help with back surgery

codes 63047 is single vertebral segment and 63048 is for each additional vertebra segment; segment being the key word in the description so you would count each segment not levels. Levels would include 2 segmts but it states a single vert. seg. so you would count each segment. So it would be...

    Help with back surgery

Me personally I would code 63047 with 63048x3 but that is just my opinion because 63042 is more for removal of herniated disk according to the dx pt has spinal stenosis. There is not really a code for reexploration of recurring stenosis so thats why I would go with 63047. If the doctor performed...
