This patient had a girdlestone procedure in 12/09 and is now back to the OR for what was supposed to be a THA. Instead, the physician removed the spacer, en bloc, and heterotopic ossification around the base of the femur, and imbedded to the abductor. The patient received a depuy prostalac size 2 with a size 36+5 head, and on the acetabular sice a size 58x36 cemented zimmer liner.
My doc wants to code this as 27130 and 27036-59, but does this really count as a total hip arthroplasty even though it's an antibacterial spacer? Any input would be appreciated.
