Hello. I am in need of assistance. I have a ED physician that saw a patient and performed an aspiration of bartholins cyst. The note is that not detailed in explaining if excision was performed. I am wondering if the cpt code for excision of Bartholins cyst is even billable at this point or I should just include the procedure in the ED CPT code. Any input is appreciated.

Aspiration of bartholin glad was performed under normal sterile conditions after the patient was oriented on procedure, risks and agreed to have the
procedure. 16 cc of serous fluid removed from the gland. Sent to pathology for cytology.

Maybe cpt code 10160???

Thank you.

There are a couple of CPT codes specific to Bartholin's gland
56420 Incision and drainage of Bartholin's gland abscess
56440 Marsupialization of Bartholin's gland cyst
56740 Excision of Bartholin's gland or cyst
It is clear the provider did not excise the cyst, nor perform a marsupialization (cut open and suture to stay open - click link if you want to learn more). The use of the word "aspirate" to me indicates a needle aspiration rather than I&D. If that was the case, then I would agree with 10160.
