I am a coder at a Federally Qualified Health Center in New York State. Our providers often give single doses of oral (PO) stock medications to patients. Some of the medications are expensive. I thought medications provided during an EM visit would be considered inclusive with the overall visit. However, there is a push to bill for these medications. Are there any rules about billing for oral medications at an office visit? Is any one billing successfully for oral medications? If so, what codes are you using?
