Bone Marrow Units of service

With surgical path, the unit of service is the specimen. Frequently Bone Marrows include 2 samples: one is the bone marrow aspirate and the other is the bone marrow biopsy - when coded would be 88305 x 2 (rather than x3). Also, the bone marrow biopsy may need a decal treatment (88311) along with the special stains as directed by the pathologist. Hope this is helpful.
