Patient arrives with a gapping hole with foul smelling drainage in her breast. Wound was cultured and packed. Patient was sent to plastic surgeon because she has implants and provider was thinking the implant would need to be removed.

How should I code for my provider packing this abscess? It was not really an I&D, because he did not have to make an incision.

This seems like it would just be considered part of the E/M since he did a dressing. Cleaning of wounds, dressing is inclusive to the E/M is my understanding.
Anyone else?

Did he puncture the wound? He would have to drain it some way, Whether punture. excision, incision.

No, the wound was already open and draining. He did not need to incise or puncture.
