Our anesthesiologists purchase and provide albuterol inhalers to patients that need them on the day of surgery. The anesthesiologist orders the albuterol and the patient takes this through the inhaler and then we give the inhaler to the patient to take home. Can we bill for the inhaler? We are not doing a nebulizer; we are providing a hand held inhaler.

I would think it would be easier to prescribe the inhaler for the patient to pick up prior to surgery, and bring with them on the day of surgery. That way you are not having it denied as being bundled into the procedure, or denied because they don't cover it on a buy & bill basis, or denied because they want you to bill it to the pharmacy portion of the plan, etc.
