The pediatric office that I work for is entertaining the idea of hiring an in-house LCSW for our patients. The LCSW would be billing under our group TIN/NPI. Do we need to worry about self-referrals? Is it okay if our LCSW only sees our patients? Is there any other information we may need to know before going forward with this idea?

Hi there, this is a question for an attorney who knows health care employment law but as a basic guide:
I don't know of any laws or rules that require an employee of a practice to treat patients from outside the practice. But of course, practices can't force patients to see someone on staff.
I'd also recommend that your practice make sure it understands the state scope of practice laws for LCSWs and payer enrollment requirements.
