CPPM test tips
Hi,
I took the CPPM exam in September 2018 and passed on my first try. I will be honest. It is a very challenging exam. It is 200 questions long, so there is a lot of reading involved. I did not take a course. I just studied everything that was in the study guide. Here are a few other tips that I used to pass.
1. I bought the current year's study guide.
2. I read the study guide from beginning to end and made a lot of flashcards. Read the flash cards over and over.
3. Took the chapter tests at the end of each chapter and made a flashcard for each question. I figured if it was asked on the chapter test there was a big possibility that the topic would be on the exam. I was correct.
4. I printed out the topics that would be on the exam. If you go to the certification section of the AAPC website and go to CPPM certification it will give you a list of everything that will appear on the exam. Also knowing the amount of questions for each topic helps you to know where to emphasize your studying the most. Make a flash card for every topic that is listed.
5. I bought the practice exam. I did the chapter exams and the practice exams over and over until I was able to answer every question correctly. The practice exams will give you the rationals.
6. Make sure you are very comfortable with the accounting, compliance and revenue cycle management sections of the book. The exam has a lot of questions from these sections.
There was only one question on the exam that I did not remember from the study guide. For the most part everything that is on the exam is in the study guide. A lot of the questions are very similar to the practice exam questions and the questions from the chapter exams. The questions are challenging and you do have to read the questions carefully and think about what they are asking.
I hope this helps. If you have any specific questions I would love to answer them if I can. Good luck to anyone taking this exam.
