CPT for Lap Sigmoid Colectomy

The correct code will be 44204. Under Laparoscopic Excision Procedures on the Intestines (Except Rectum) The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code 44204 as maintained by American Medical Association, is a medical procedural code under the range - Laparoscopic Excision Procedures on the Intestines (Except Rectum).
Yes, you are correct if that is all that he did. However, you might want to look at 44205 - 44208 also to make sure that non of these are more appropriate. You don't want to under code if he did more than just the colectomy.

Could i code a partial colectomy w/anastomosis - cpt44204? for a laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy(diagnosis sigmoid diverticulosis)
Thanks

Yes, also make sure to add the lap takedown of splenic flexure code (44213 if this is performed as part of his lap sigmoid colectomy.

Especially make sure it's not a 44207, since if the entire sigmoid, or just the distal sigmoid, is removed, the anast is going to be a coloproctostomy.

Thank You - Just came across this myself and the entire sigmoid colon was taken. "Sigmoid colon with top of rectum". They were incorrectly billing it as a 44204 and should be a 44207. You wrote this in 2008. You are probably long retired on a beach somewhere ..... Thanks Again
