Impression of an MRI of the knee reads:

1. Undersurface tears posterior horns of medial and lateral menisci.
2. Intrasubstance degeneration anterior horns of medial and lateral menisci.
3. Moderate joint effusion.

Any suggestions on what diagnosis codes to use? Would it be correct to use 836.0 & 836.1 with 717.1 & 717.42?

You need to find out if this is a current injury or not...

Yes, you are correct. If the tears are current, they would require the 836 codes... The instrasubstance degeneration could be coded with the 717 codes as internal derangement.
