We are a critical access hospital and are going to start being charged $200 by Poison Control every time we call them. We are trying to come up with a code to bill out for when the nurse or doctor calls poison control when a patient presents to the ER and it's necessary to call. We are going to be passing this charge onto the patient. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. We have one idea of using the code 99499, unlisted evaluation and management service.

Thanks!

I would imagine that this is the cost of doing business. BUT your facility E/M's may need to be re-evaluated and possibly adjusted to include a portion of the fee for each patient. I wouldn't do this as a seperate, full charge. Just my opinion.
