Our orginization has opened a conveniant care clinic. This is like a urgent care but no walk ins. The provider will treat the immediate problem and may recommend that the patient go to one of our clinics for any cronic issues that may have been noted during this visit.

My question is if the patient is new at the conveniant care clinic, would the patient be considered new or est. when being seen by our regular medical clinic provider at a different location? The specialty would be the same ( family practice) but the facility would be in a different location of the city.

Elaine,
Are they all under the same tax id number? If they are different tax id numbers then it would definitely be new but if same tax id number it depends on the insurance company if they will pay a new again.

We have this problem frequently because we have 7 clinics (3 specialty clinics) all under the same tax id number. A patient that is seen at our primary care clinics and then referred to one of our specialty clinics usually has to be an established patient.
