Scenario: Patient comes into ER, psychiatrist is asked to consult and determines patient should be admitted to psych floor. The attending, within the same psychiatrists' Dr group, evals the patient on the psych floor on the same day as the ER visit. Can the consult in the ER be billed from the E/M consult codes (99241-5) and the inpatient psych eval be billed (90801) on the same day? We are wondering because of the Drs being from the same group.

Thanks!!!

Two differen specialties

If the physicians are in the same group (same tax ID) but of two different specialties they can each bill for their services independently of one another.

They are of the same specialty. They say sometimes the patient would need to be evaluated again once they reach the floor. I am thinking we can only bill 1 of the services. It looks that way from the CCI edits. Any comments? Thanks!
