Our doc wants to bill 29875 for the following, but im not sure if i should instead code 29877?


DX: chondromalacia of the patella grade III of right knee.

Operation: chondroplasty of right patella with resection of medial plica.


The suprapatellar pouch was entered. There was grade III chondromalacia of the inferior medial facet, which was debrided with a 4.5 shaver. Final photographs were taken, the knee was irrigated out. the portal was closed with 4-0 interrupted nylon sutures.

I know he says next to operation, resection of medial plica but in the body of report I don't really see it.

Since the body of the report does not describe plica resection, I feel CPT 29877 is correct.

That's what I thought, he threw me off when he mentions under dx, medial plica & then he gave a charge slip with 29875, but even so, if he didn't properly document medial plica resection, I have to go with what is documented
