One of our doctors saw a self pay patient in the hospital for a consult. However, the patient refused to give any contact information to the hospital. I have no way to contact the PT or bill them, if we are not able to send statements or contact the PT are we able to send this patient to collections? This is a first for me and I want to make sure I have the correct information prior to telling the Dr we need to write this amount off. I appreciate any help :)

How very clever of the patient! (and how very stupid of the hospital).

I'm assuming you contacted the hospital and asked the how they expected to get paid without the patient's contact information?

I'd at least attempt to try to reach the patient. I worked in my early life as a skip-tracer, and now with the power of Google, sometimes you can track people down. But, there's nothing that says you can't send the patient directly to collections.

I'm guessing this patient has played this game before.
