What DX would you use in an outpatient setting where the Dr documents the following:

Influenza A positive, SUSPECT Swine

since this is a suspect I cannot bill the 488.1...so what do I use? 488.0 ?

I can only go by my facility rules, but we have been instructed to use 487.1 unless we have a definitive positive swine flue test result.

If you look at the new ICD-9 guidelines effective October 1 2009 you will see that neither inpatient, outpatient nor physician may code suspected H1N1.

I know I can't code a SUSPECTED code, this is why I am asking. I will look into the 487.1 , I am thinking you are correct with that code.
