Wiki Inpatient hospital to Inpatient rehab

Does anyone have an answer to this. If a patient is discharged from inpatient hospital stay to inpatient rehab in the same facility does there need to be a discharge billed from inpatient hospital?

I would say yes because they are going to differ unit but in same facility. It be just like a transfer from the ER to psych ward plus revenue codes and attending docs probably different. The provider should mention transferring to more rehab care in his discharge summary.

No, because they are still at the same hospital, the only change is the level of care and procedure code/rev code. You wouldn't discharge the patient until you've billed the last inpatient bill at the same facility.
