Patient was seen as new patient for MNT in 2006 with diagnosis of diabetes. Code billed was 97802. Same patient comes back for MNT in 2007 but with diagnosis of renal insufficiency. What MNT code would be used for the 2007 visit, 97802 or 97803? This is a Medicare Patient. Medicare states that 97802 is to be used once a year, for initial assessment of a new patient. We are seeing her in different years and assessing her for different problems but she would not be a new patient. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
