How should I code this? Patient brought into the cath lab in a fasting state and hooked up to hemodynamic monitoring. He was then sterilely prepped and draped. A 6 fr sheath was placed into the L radial artery via a Seldinger technique. We then advanced a 6 Fr Pigtail catheter into the distal Aorta over a wire. One angiogram was performed in the AP position with runoff to both feet. After review of the diagnostic angiogram the Pigtail catheter was removed over a wire. The 6 Fr shealth was removed and hemostasis was achieved with a TR band. The patient was then transferred to Admit/Recovery in stable condition with the plan to discharge in 1-2 hours. Thank you for any help.

Hi Patricia! This one is tough it would depend on what the doctor was imaging:
  • Code 75630 is used to report any imaging of the aorta and any of the extremity arteries from one catheter position in the aorta.
  • If the catheter is placed in the aorta at the level of the aorta where the iliac arteries bifurcate, and imaging of the extremities is performed from this one catheter placement, it is reported as an extremity angiogram (report code 75710 if only one leg is studied or code 75716 if both legs are studied). This is if there is either limited or no mention of findings in the aorta.
Look at what the findings are, if the physician mentions the abdominal aorta code 75630. If the doctor documented a patent distal aorta with stenosis in both legs report 75716.
