I AM A NEW CODER TO OPTHALMOLOGY AND I RECEIVED A REJECTION BACK FROM INSURANCE ASKING FOR MORE INFO ON A CODE 99070. THIS WAS SENT BY THE PERSON IN THE OFFICE BEFORE ME AND IT WAS SENT BECAUSE THE DOCTOR USED QUICKSET SUTURES ON THE PATIENT. NOW THE CPT BOOK SAYS 'TO LIST drugs , trays, supplies or materials provided" My question is I have not found a code for the suture so do I just put the words in of quickset sutures?

Hi,

It has been my experience that no payor reimburses for the code 99070 -- I've never seen it paid.

I think that you are going to need to code using a HCPCS code in order to receive payment. I don't have a book handy at the moment but you should find a code for suture pretty easily.

Good Luck!
