I have recently started charge entry for pediatrics. Are the pediatrician charges for the newborn entered under the mother as long as she is inpatient or are they entered under the baby? Years ago when I worked in insurance claims were entered under the mother. Thanks
Josie

The newborn has its own charges charged to them. You maybe thinking of under the insurance companies that the baby is covered under the mother for the first 30 days.

Entering the hospital charges under the baby, is this over the board or is it insurance company specific? I agree, it makes sense to enter all charges under the baby. Thanks for your input.

Once the child is born ...

Once the child is born s/he is a unique patient. Any services provided to the infant should be billed for the infant NOT the mother.

You may have to delay submission to let the parents get the necessary info to their employer/insurance company to add the baby to the plan.

Hope that helps.
