Patient comes in with a swollen tounge which was caused by an allergic reaction to food. All of the DX codes for allergy have "Dermatitis" involved. There is no record that the patient's skin was effected, only the tounge. Any suggestions?

It sounds more like anaphalactic shock. Check the 995.6 area of the ICD-9.
995.60 is Due to unspecified food, but there are more specific foods listed if you know the food that caused the reaction.
