Hi,
One of my OB/GYN's met with a patient's mother to talk about her daughter. The daughter is not yet a patient of this office. He now wants to know if this can be billed out. I am thinking that IF it can, it would have to be under the mother? I really can't get my head around this!

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
-Kathleen

This is not billable to insurance. the daughter is not a patient and you can not bill for the mother as the patient. Most offices set this type of visit up as a private pay and the mother would be responsible for payment prior to the discussion.

e&m w/o pt present

What if the patient is established with the practice? We had a mother come in today to have get test results for her young daughter but the child was not present. Can we bill for this service if the results were given to her and explained by the physician?
