I have a pt that recieve a open carotid stent. 37207 now does not include carotid and 36215 states percutaneous. Any ideas?

I hate to tell ya, but I had one of these recently, and after I asked many different people I was told the only code is the unlisted procedure code, 37799.

ughh, I know, I hated doing it, but that is all there is, that I could find.

Thanks Heather, that is where i was leaning but wanted another opinion, I always try an exhaust everything else before using the unlisted.
Thanks again

I think the AMA made an error on this one. Why would they take away our only option for an open carotid stent placement? I think they got a little carried away and used the same wording from 37205 & 37206 not remembering that although there is a code for percutaneous placement for carotids, there was not one for open placement except for 37207 & 37208. I've sent in a request to Ingenix and haven't heard back but can't figure out how to send one in to the AMA where it originates from without going through this huge, ellaborate process as if I'm requesting a new code altogether. I guess that's what I'll have to do.
