I am unable to identify an appropriate CPT code for a percutaneous carpal tunnel release. I have told the doctor that I can not identify an appropriate code for this other than the CPT64999. I don't work in orthopedics so I would appreciate any ortho coding specialists to give me some feed back.

He is a sports medicine MD who is performing percutaneous tenotomies in his office. Thank you. Linda Rago RT, CPC, CPC-I

Hello. I can understand where you are coming from. Could you tell me a few things?
Did the MD do any of these procedures:
Percutaneous balloon carpal tunnelplasty which is an experimental technique in which a small balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into the tunnel through a skin incision and then inflated to stretch the ligament.
or was it
Percutaneous carpal tunnel release using nerve conduction monitoring requires no incisions ?

There is a “percutaneous” procedure (without use of endoscopic visualization) for a carpal tunnel release using a device known as the Manos carpal tunnel release system. This percutaneous procedure is neither endoscopic nor open and would be reported with CPT code 64999 – Unlisted procedure, nervous system
