PICC Line Placement

Proper coding for a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line, or midline catheter, depends on patient age, as follows:
36568 Insertion of peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC), without subcutaneous port or pump; younger than 5 years of age
36569 Insertion of peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC), without subcutaneous port or pump; age 5 years or older
Per CPT Assistant (November 2012), “‘Midline’ central venous catheters may be inserted in either an inpatient or outpatient setting.”
36569: Insertion of peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC), without subcutaneous port or pump; age 5 years or older

is that what you need?

Thank You, Very Much----I Do Believe This Is It --- This Patient Has A History Of Bladder Infection, And Is To Undergo Antibiotic Therapy For Six Weeks----

Thanks, Again----

There's also a code if the pt. is under age 5 (36568). You can also use 77001 if fluoroscopic guidance was used and 76937 if US guidance was used and if a permanent image of the US was recorded and saved.

Hello All,
How about the chest x-ray if it is done with PICC. do we code separately? CCI edit says you can but you have to add modifier -59 to chest x-ray but we are not getting paid for the chest x-ray only payment is for code 36556.
If we do not get paid, what is the point to add modifier -59 to chest x-ray code.
Thanks,
This is for facility charges.

diagnosis code

There is a debate in our office over the diagnosis code for a PICC line placement and a VAD placement. Would they both be coded as a V58.81??

Good afternoon,
