Hi everyone...hoping you all can shed some light.
I have always been taught that you can bill an E/M along with the Preventive Exam if the patient presents with an acute problem. What about if the physician needs to address a chronic condition during the preventive exam? If the documentation supports it, can we bill an E/M for addressing the chronic condition? I understand that ordering labs and Rx refills are not significant enough to bill the additional code.
For those of you that do bill this way, do you have any trouble with reimbursement from commercial payers? And Medicare?
