If a script says prior Vitamin D deficiency and the patient has a Vitamin D level drawn, how would I code this? The results of the blood work were normal by the way. I would use V12.29 but some are saying to use 268.9 which I feel would be incorrect because of the word prior. How would you code this?

Has the patient been on medication for the deficiency? if so then use the V58.83, if not then use the
V12.29 as you have stated. It is incorrect to use the 268.9.
