I work for an office that codes and bills for Radiology (Professional Component only), but the question I have is... Do you code from the indication/reason for the test or the conclusion? We have differing opinions in our office and want to ensure we're doing this correctly. Any help would be appreciated.

We bill for the Technical Component and we bill the dx the physician writes on the orders. Hope this helps!

Radiology coding

I worked in a radiology office for 12 years and we always argued this point. In the end, you bill from the impression and if the study is negative you can then go to symptoms. Eg. If there is a fracture you code for the fracture. If no fracture then you code from a symptom such as injury or pain to that specific area. :)
