I need help with finding a code for this. Normally when these are removed here in the office setting we charge an E&M code, BUT, this was removed in the OR when the patient was inpatient at the hospital. We are trying to find a code to use since the patient was actually taken to the OR, if it was done at bedside we would just use an E&M. We looked at the unlisted code 37799 but not sure this actually fits. Does anyone have any suggestions rather than using an E&M code? Thanks.

There is no code - E & M is it. Why was it necessary to go to the OR? Did they do something else besides pulling out the catheter?

Unlisted

If it was medically necessary to take the patient to the OR to remove the nontunnelled CVL, then you are stuck with the unlisted code. Make sure your documentation clearly incidates the medical necessity of this procedure performed under anesthesia in the OR.

Hope that helps.
