A patient came to our office as a consult from another physician. The doc saw the patient and diagnosed a fracture of the distal right radius (Colles' fracture). He decided to take the patient to the PACU and do a closed reduction.

Can the office visit/consult be billed along with the procedure, or can only one be billed (the procedure)? I could use help on any modifiers for this also.

ICD-9: 813.41
CPT: 25605

Consult: 99244

Thanks!

If your consult meets the requirements of a consultation (with the exception of Medicare) and the documentation supports 99244, you can bill for the consultation in addition to 25605. You would report modifier 57 with the E/M.
