Does anyone know if Medicare recognizes Glaucoma and Retina MD's a subspecialtiy? Here's the issue patient came in from out of town over a 5 hour drive each way. Was seen by the Glaucoma eye specialist who determined a possible detached retina. The pateint was then referred to the Retinal specialist with in the same practice for a visit. One provider coded a 92012-25 and the second provider coded a 92014 is this a billable service? Both are eye providers.

Is there a different taxonomy code for each type of specialist? If so, that would indicate recognition of the separate specialties. I would bill for the service and see what happens, especially since there were two separate issues being addressed.
