On 5/30 pt had 20680 removal of hardware but it was done within the global period of 90 days of Procedure 27792 open tx of distal fibula fracture performed 3/7 dos. It should not be billed without modifier -58 for Staged, -76 for Repeat, -78 for Complication, or -79 for Unrelated. Any suggestions?
 
Hi Jennifer,
It depends... Was the hardware that was removed the same hardware that was implanted during the 27792 Sx?
Was this removed due to a complication? Or was it removed as staged procedure as the surgeon felt the hardware did not need to stay in long term?
