Can Venofer infusion (96365 & J1756) be billed with saline (96361 & J7050) in an office setting providing the start and end time is documented? Or is the saline considered inculsive and not billed separately?

Will appreciate any guidance or coding references.
Thank you,
Caroline

If there is no dehydration documented in the patient's medical record, then it is considered part of the administration of the drug and not billable separately.

If, there is true dehydration of the patient, you will need to subtract the time that drug was given and if there is an appropriate amount of time to bill for hydration infusion then you append the add on code 96361.

Was the questioned answered if you could bill the saline? Can anyone help me with the same type of question?

Can a facility bill AND get reimbursed for saline (250cc or 500cc) when it is used as protocol? Many times the docs order it, it's hung by the nurse and never used.
1. Is this billable
2. Does anyone get reimbursed by commercial payors? I know medicare pays a small fraction.

Thank you for your help!
:)
