I'm curious to know what is your opinion in a case when on the same day in the hospital a hospital PA rounding dictating ( and wants to bill) and a MD not employed by the hospital rounds and dictate on same pt and wants to bill as well......who can bill?

The non hospital MD can bill. The hospital PA cannot. Only one bill per patient per day can be submitted by a given service (presumably the patient is admitted under the MD or their group).

This cannot be billed as a shared visit since the physician and PA do not share a tax ID number. Finally the MD note must stand on its own and support the level billed.

For the MD and PA to both bill on the patient (shared billing) then they either have to have the same employer or the MD must lease the PA from the hospital.
