CMS Releases Part B Proposed Rule
A proposed rule that addresses Part B payment policies paid under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) went on display today in the Federal Register. Final ’10 ICD-9-CM Codes Released
New, revised, and invalid diagnosis and procedure codes effective Oct. 1, 2009 have been finalized. An updated list of ICD-9-CM codes was posted on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Web site June 10. Several codes included in the update were not listed in the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed rule for 2010, but will appear in the final rule. Read more »

HEAT “Takes Down” Medicare Fraud Ring
Federal agents arrested 53 people in Detroit, Miami, Denver, and New York City, June 24, for allegedly scheming to defraud the government of more than $50 million in false Medicare claims. Physicians, medical assistants, health care executives, and beneficiaries were among the accused for various Medicare fraud offenses, including conspiracy to defraud the Medicare program, criminal false claims, and violations of the anti-kickback statutes. CMS: Scam Targets Physicians
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has become aware of a scam where perpetrators are sending faxes to physician offices posing as the Medicare carrier or Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). The fax instructs physician staff to respond to a questionnaire to provide an account information update within 48 hours to prevent a gap in Medicare payments. The fax may have the CMS logo and/or the Medicare contractor logo to enhance the appearance of authenticity. Read more »
