Position Summary

The Society of interventional Radiology is growing it’s Clinical and Practice Affairs Division. In this new role the associate will be responsible to monitor, analyze, and contribute to the impact of proposed regulatory or payer policies impacting interventional practices. The Associate will liaison with private payers/insurers/employers/health systems on issues related to the delivery of interventional radiology (IR) services. This position will provide a career growth opportunity through stakeholder engagement with medical associations, employers, business coalitions and patient groups, by supporting the delivery of quality care.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

·       Provide support to the Manager of Coding and Reimbursement.

·       Develop and maintain relationships with representatives of payers and other stakeholders that develop coverage and payment policies that impact the delivery of interventional radiology services.

·       Maintain and expand network with other health and medical organizations and coalitions that address private sector and workforce issues.

·       Track interventional radiology news on upcoming policies that will impact IR services.

·       Provide support to our CPT, RUC, and MEDCAC representatives. Support payment processes including securing reimbursement and coverage for new and emerging procedures.

·       Organize coding and health policy webinars and IR coding curriculum courses that support our IR membership.

·       Delage work between, chairs, workgroups and external consultants.


Secondary Functions and Responsibilities

·       Schedules weekly check in with chairs, monthly meetings with workgroup and ad hoc committee meetings. Provides the agendas for each meeting and takes meeting minutes in a timely fashion to ensure action items are completed by the deadline.

·       Updates the website monthly or more as needed with coding and reimbursement content that is beneficial to our IR physician membership.

·       Drafts monthly newsletters to help communicate committee achievements regarding payment policy, coding guidance and CPT/RUC initiatives.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·       Understanding of CPT coding, revenue cycle and payment structures.

·       Understanding of Medicare & Medicaid and private payer’s regulations.

·       Project scoping

·       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong attention to detail.

·       Able to consistently work with multiple projects and priorities, a keen eye for detail.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint.)

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on interpretation of statistical output appropriate for a variety of audiences.

·       Presents a positive, professional appearance and conveys a professional demeanor.


Education and Experience:

·       2+ years related experience with either a radiology practice or a medical office, health care and/or medical association environment.

·       CPC certification required, RCC after one year of employment and RCCIR or CIRCC after two years of employment.

·       An understanding of medical coding including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, DRGs, etc.


Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:  

Small, fast paced open office environment with moderate noise levels. Use of phones and computers for extended periods of time. Utilize office equipment and communication technologies for conference calls and teleconference meetings/webinars. Requires general mobility to move through the facility.  Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.  Frequent interaction with internal staff and physician members/board via phone, in person, email and other mediums. Normal sitting and standing activities for an office environment.  Some travel required.


Due to the COVID-19 pandemic SIR is allowing its staff to work remotely on a temporary basis.
