Position Responsibilities:

1.Responsible for assigning, directing, monitoring, and evaluating the work of subordinate staff on a regular basis, as well as performing the most technically coding and abstracting duties in the department.                                                                                                                                                              

2. Maintains a formalized review process for coding compliance, including a formal review (audit) process; designs and uses audit tools to monitor accuracy of coding and billing staff.                                                                                                                                                                              

3.Monitors the orientation program within the Billing and Coding and other areas as required. Assigned responsibilities, and reinforces the respective departmental and hospital policies.                                                                                                                                                                                           

4. Performs data quality review on professional services, inpatient records, surgeries, outpatient encounters to validate the Internal Classification of Diseases (IDC-9-CM, ICM-10-CM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT)

5. Continuously evaluates the quality of clinical documentation to identify incomplete or inconsistent document for inpatient and/or outpatients encounters that impact the code selection and resulting CPT/RVU payments; brings concerns to the attention of the Coding-Billing Manager and/or medical staff for resolution.                                                                                                                                 

6. Provides the Coding-Billing Manager with input on the employees' performances in a timely manner. Assists the Manager in resolving staff conflicts when necessary. Promotes professional development and motivates staff. Keeps track of departmental occurrences as required.

8. Supports the Supervisor or Manager's communication initiative. Informs team of any departmental and/or hospital news, updates, issues, requests, general situations.                                                                                                                                                            

Qualifications:

  • CPC, or CCS-P required
  • 2+ years of experience in Coding
  • 1 year of Supervisory experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required
