Researches, resolves, and documents issues requiring medical decision-making; reports and/or discusses with management and providers; provides coaching and education to the coding team and management regarding medical issues; identifies deficiencies and improper medical understanding within the staff responsible for coding; assists in initiating and maintaining training for staff related to medical necessity and coding; reviews medical record documentation versus coding; utilizes MDAudit system to manage compliance audit process; performs audits of patient charts; meets with providers to discuss results of reviews; ensures appropriate corrections are made to patient charges; analyzes and presents results of audits to administration, department chairs, and faculty leadership; attends seminars on proper
CPT and
ICD-10 coding and changes in their uses, as well as documentation requirements; stays abreast on all Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and other pertinent regulations; communicates issues and trends on a regular basis; trains, evaluates, and educates providers on documentation and coding issues; serves as medical resource to Compliance and Reimbursement staff and clinical staff on issues related to quality, coding and documentation; provides preliminary review and feedback of all new providers to set baseline documentation accuracy rate utilizing MDAudit system; assists in developing billing policies and procedures based on payer-rules; assists with billing compliance audits; assists with Quality Improvement related projects; assists with researching and resolving customer complaints; performs Quality Improvement audits; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama, one year of professional nursing experience, and licensure with the state of Alabama as a registered nurse.
Certification as a Certified Professional Coder must be obtained within one year of employment.
Experience in medical coding, auditing and training is preferred.
