General Requirements

This position must have a strong understanding and knowledge
of ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding.
·
Firm knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy is
necessary.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and
professional attitude are required.

critical.

Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain
a high level of productivity.

Qualified applicants must be
certified coders with 2+ years coding experience preferred.
Job Duties
·
Assures all services documented in the patient’s chart are
coded with appropriate CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10 codes for Hospital.
·
Hospital charts are coded within 3 days of receipt of the
record.
·
When documentation is not documented appropriately seeks to
attain proper documentation through physician’s queries.
·
Achieves and maintains 95% accuracy while maintaining a high
level of productivity. Accuracy will be monitored by periodic reviews of the
Coding Manager. Coding audit will be performed by an external company or internally
90 days after employment and minimum of once annually thereafter to make sure
accuracy percentage is being maintained.
·
Productivity expectations for coding for Hospital coding
that includes inpatient charts 30-40.
·
Tracks outstanding patient charts to ensure all records are
accounted for on a weekly basis.
·
Stays current with all coding guidelines.
·
Assist billing staff as it relates to claim denials due to
procedure, modifier and/or diagnosis.
·
Assist other coders with questions as needed.
·
Maintains current with required CEU credits needed to
continue coding certification.
·
Monthly onsite department meetings.
·
Phone consultations to facilities as
needed.
·
Special projects as assigned.

Education
Requirement
·
College degree preferred.
·
Must have and maintain one of the
following certifications:
o
RHIT
o
RHIA
o
CCS
o
CCS-P
o
CPC
