CODING SPECIALIST INPATIENT

We currently have a full-time opportunity for
an Inpatient Coding Specialist to join our team. This position reports to the
Coding/CDI Supervisor. Responsibilities include ability to code acute care
inpatient and outpatient encounters for all patient service type records,
concurrent and post discharge; strong knowledge of and keeping apprised on
Medicare, ICD-10 and CPT coding and documentation guidelines; assisting Coding
Coordinator in the requests from patient Financial Services to investigating
billing edits due to revenue codes, modifiers or coding questions; working
closely with CDI Specialists in providing coding conventions and guidelines
when the clinical and coding assumption is in conflict; and participating in
the overall philosophy of supporting a self-directed team that performs under
minimal supervision.
Experience/Qualifications:

RHIT,
RHIA or CCS with a minimum of 3 years coding experience in an acute care
inpatient and outpatient facility; CCDS or CDIP preferred
·
Knowledge
and appropriate use of acute care CMS regulatory coding requirements as they
pertain to sequencing and clinical documentation
·
Experience
in ICD-10 CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding of Inpatient, Same Day Surgery/Outpatient
Ancillary/ED medical records in a hospital and/or outpatient clinic
·
Understanding
when to query physicians for clarification to ensure correct codes are assigned
·
Excellent
problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and perform under
pressure in a positive, team-oriented environment with diplomacy and tact
·
Strong
interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills to accurately relay
information to staff and to internal and external customers
·
Computer
proficiency; Microsoft Office preferred
·
Collaborative,
team-oriented approach
·
Associate's
or Bachelor's degree preferred
