GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Responsibilities include: medical coding functions within the Brigham & Women’s Hospital Dept. of Orthopedics. The primary function of the position is professional, accurate coding of all procedures, surgical cases, E/M’s and ambulatory procedures for the assigned department, using the CPT and ICD-10 codes. Responsible for reviewing all coding done by providers to ensure that coding is accurate and maximum revenue is recognized. Will assist with identifying any coding issues for the Providers.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Responsible for accurately coding all ambulatory encounters for the assigned department.
2.Review all office charges held in Work Ques for issues related to coding errors, payor errors, etc. Process charge corrections and appeals for denied office codes. Responsible for working coding related denials as assigned in Epic.
3.Must be well versed in Evaluation and Management (E/M) leveling
4.Code (CPT and ICD-10) operative procedures, office procedures and all E/M services with 95% accuracy rate.
5.Responsible for reviewing all providers coding to ensure accuracy and maximization of revenue.
6.Responsible for tracking coding issues by provider, for alerting leadership and providing necessary training to improve coding.
7.Under supervision, responsible for follow-up with providers’ post coding education communications.
8.Utilize information systems to maximize efficiency, including but not limited to Epic, and other database systems to process accurate medical billing and obtain accurate demographic information on patients.
9.Under supervision, responsible for training providers on coding and documentation requirements via email as appropriate.
10.Keeps informed of third-party regulations in billing/reimbursement and maintains files of coding publications.
11.Handles special projects as assigned by department leadership.
12.Maintenance of confidentiality is essential for this position.
13.Participates in continuing education programs to ensure that coding knowledge remains current.
14.Research payer guidelines and other available resources as needed to code accurately
15.Follow HIPAA guidelines for the management of patient privacy and confidentiality.
16.Provides cross-coverage as needed.

18.Responsible for accurately coding all surgical procedures for the assigned division, after training.
