Baystate Health is seeking Coding Specialists for full time positions at its Health Information Management Department.

What you will do:

This position is responsible for the accurate coding of either inpatient coding or outpatient coding.  All tasks need to be performed following the Operating Principles of Baystate Health.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review medical record documentation for the accurate assigment of ICD-10 and/or CPT codes to medcial records.
  • Participates in educational coding meetings either onsite or offsite.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Contributes to the general efficiency of the section and the department.
  • Works with HIM Compliance to address documention and improve quality.
  • Assists in training of Coding Specialist-Associate when needed.

What you will need:

  • High School Diploma/ GED required.
  • Coding Certification is strongly preferred (CPC, CPC-H from AAPC; or CCSP, CCS from AHIMA).
  • 2-4 years experience as a Coder in a hospital setting.
  • Must complete Coding Assessment, which must demosntrate knowledge and experience in the applicable coding area.
  • Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM and PCS codes, CPT codes, APC’s, APG’s, and DRG’s, as appropriate.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of 3M end coder.
  • Abilty to work independently with little direction.

  • These positions are full time, 40 hours per week.
  • Location: 361 Whitney Avenue, Holyoke.
  • We are hiring for positions that will provide Coding for Inpatient areas.
