GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Coding Manager, the Coding Supervisor is responsible for shared supervision of Certified Coding team. 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Provides professional and courteous telephone communication to all customers of the Ogden Clinic.

2.       Maintain an adequate level of productivity and quality assurance standards as defined and set forth by the Coding Department Manager.

3.       Ensures that each encounters coded correctly in compliance with industry coding standards and practices.

4.       Accountable for meeting behavioral expectations, and supporting the dignity of all persons. Also responsible for the stewardship of resources.

5.       Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the ICD-10-CM, CPT® and HCPCS coding conventions, 3M and Encoder Pro, CodeCorrect , and eClinical Works applications.

6.       Study, understand and adhere to all Ogden Clinic policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 1.       Measure team success through analyzing data provided by eCW reporting data.

2.       Assist with updating, developing and implementing coding best practices and performance standards.

3.       Assist in ongoing training of coding staff and ensures accuracy and consistency in code assignment.

4.       Communicate regularly with providers regarding pertinent coding updates, documentation improvement.

5.       Communicate employee performance issues to the Coding Manager.

6.       Responsible for staff development. Train and clearly define the expectations for each staff member.

7.       Coordinate, facilitate, and attend regular team meetings and training sessions as scheduled.

8.       Supervise day to day activities of assigned team members.

9.       Provide a happy, positive and productive workplace environment for team members.

10.    Oversee the unlocked chart reports, helping to ensure that they are being worked regularly and staff is notifying providers in a timely manner.

11.    Thorough understanding of  Ogden Clinic’s services and providers

12.    Efficiently communicate changes and expectations to all team members.

13.    Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Coding Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.       EDUCATION:  High school diploma or equivalent and AAPC education.

2.       CERTIFICATIONS:  RHIT, RHIA, CPC or Specialty CPC certification. 

3.       LANGUAGE SKILLS:  At a minimum, must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language and correct pronunciation of medical terms/procedures.

4.       At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.

5.       Minimum 5 years coding experience preferred.

6.       Broad knowledge of EMR and coding software knowledge, basic word processing and spreadsheet programs is required.

7.       Thorough understanding of E/M leveling and documentation requirements of patient.

8.       Prior experience with practice management software preferred.

9.       Substantial knowledge of anatomy/physiology, surgical procedures, medical terminology required.

8.       Must be highly skilled in managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

9.       Must be committed to the protection of confidential information in patient records and charts.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

1.       Requires prolonged sitting. 

2.       Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and other office equipment.

3.       Required prolonged viewing of a computer monitor.

4.       May require some light bending, stooping, lifting and stretching for files and supplies.
