Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Under the direction of the Coding Manager, the Certified Coding Supervisor is responsible for maintaining an efficient daily operational workflow.  Monitor charges are coded timely. Assist in identifying problem trends and research resolutions. Provides administrative support to Coding Manager.


  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with staff members and management.
  • Supervises and assists Billers with billing duties.
  • Assists team members with work related questions and/or issues
  • Prepares, Schedules, and assigns workload to meet departmental and organizational goals
  • Reviews encounters, superbills, reports and medical records to assign appropriate billing and diagnosis codes for provider services. 
  • Abstracts documents to determine appropriate level of E/M service or CPT procedure as appropriate.
  • Tracks inappropriate or incorrect codes chosen by providers to report services and follow all company and compliance policies with regards to incorrect codes or patterns of incorrect coding.
  • Reviews physicians’ notes and charts for accuracy.
  • Obtains any necessary clarification of information on the notes and charts.
  • Ensures that all medical records have been signed by the appropriate parties.
  • Assigns appropriate medical codes to all diagnoses or services.
  • Identifies and optimize revenue opportunities.
  • Communicates effectively with insurance carriers, staff members and management.
  • Assists team members with work related questions and/or issues
  • Monitors team progress and productivity.
  • Assists with special projects.
  • Assists with correspondence.
  • Assists with new employee training.
  • Appropriately documents the system so that all staff can understand and information can be used as legal documentation if necessary.
  • Identifies and assists in correcting coding errrors.
  • Ensures that new staff is properly trained. Monitors new staff on all assigned work. 
  • Identify trends of coding issues and/or errors.
  • Efficiently and effectively navigates GE Centricity (IDX), Centricity EMR, EPIC and Endcoder.
  • Maintains client and patient confidentiality.
  • Reviews charge correction forms for completeness.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by manager.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.



  • 3 years medical Coding experience
  • Prior experience with GE Centricity/EPIC preferred.
  • One year experience in medical billing preferred



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Coding certification required



  • Advanced knowledge of medical coding practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of coding requirements of commercial insurance, self-pay, Medicare, Medicaid, AHCCCS
  • Knowledge of business office procedures.
  • Understanding/compliance of HIPAA laws and regulations.
  • Able to differentiate between primary and secondary insurance payers.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be well organized and detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Must be available to work extended hours
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate standard office machines and equipment, including telephones, computers, copy machines, fax machines, calculators, scanners and shredders.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Type __35__wpm



Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Environmental Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment.
  • The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate.
