Position Summary
The Director of Coding
& Charge Capture has direct oversight and accountability for all aspects of
the Department of Coding & Charge Capture. S/he is responsible for
ensuring that: (i) each clinical department’s coding structure meets the needs
of the department and its physicians while simultaneously enhancing UW
Physicians’(UWP) culture of compliance and Business Excellence, (ii) all coders
are effectively, efficiently, and accurately conducting all aspects of coding
for their assigned department, (iii) physician champions and compliance
trainers are appropriately incorporated into the coding and charge capture
process, and (iv) complete charge capture/reconciliation is conducted and
timeliness and/or missing charge issues are communicated to the clinical
department administrators.
The Director of Coding
& Charge Capture has overall responsibility for all staff within the Coding
& Charge Capture Department and directly supervises the Managers of Coding
& Charge Capture, the Coding Business Analyst, and Administrative
Analyst. The Director provides leadership and direction regarding critical
decision-making that affects performance management strategies as they relate
to the coding and charge capture process within UWP.
The Director will
routinely work with the UWP Practice Advisors, Leadership throughout UW
Medicine, in particular, the Directors of Health Information Management,
Department Chairs and Directors, Physician Champions and Physicians.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, health administration or related
field required; Master’s degree preferred
Experience:
• 7 years of progressive
management experience in Coding and Charge Capture with at least 2 years at a
senior level
• 3 years of experience
in Professional Fee coding, preferably in an academic healthcare environment
• Demonstrated ability
to lead projects and drive organization performance improvement
• Experience working
with a unionized workforce, strongly preferred
