Job Summary: This position is responsible for managing the orthopedic billing and revenue cycle processes within both BIDMC/HMFP Department of Orthopaedics and PPS with special attention to billing outcomes and coding performance. This includes working with the Orthopaedic Department's administrative and operational team and physicians to assure optimum revenue cycle performance.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Manages the day to day billing operations within the PPS Orthopaedic Department.
  2. Manages the Orthopaedic revenue cycle pre-billing staff and systems to assure that all pre-billing systems at BIDMC and collection systems at PPS work together seamlessly. Works closely with Department Administrative management team, both Department and Hospital-based referral management, and self-pay collection systems to foster continuous improvement.
  3. Supervises coders to ensure timely and accurate E-ticket entry for all surgical services provided. Responsible for denial work file management and creates an environment where staff are motivated to ensure claims processing occurs in a timely and accurate manner. Responsible for claim edit work file management by revenue cycle staff (both PPS and BIDMC) to ensure timely submission of charges.
  4. Ensures that all necessary training for Orthopaedic revenue cycle staff (PPS and BIDMC) occurs effectively on a timely basis.
  5. Responsible for driving process improvement initiatives related to revenue cycle functions, in collaboration with Department administrative management. Analyzes month end reports to identify opportunities for work process improvements with respect to claims denials. Works with Revenue Cycle Management Director at PPS on strategies to mitigate any revenue cycle issues.
  6. Has the authority to direct and support managers with functional area responsibilities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 4-6 Indirect Reports: 6-10
  7. Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. 3-5 years related work experience required in physician practice revenue cycle management and 3-5 years supervisory/management experience required
  3. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
  4. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Orthopaedic practice experience preferred.

  7. Team Work: Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have implications for the management and operations of multiple areas of the organization.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.
