We are a small health tech startup hiring an insurance and billing specialist. The team member we are seeking will be responsible for billing all patient accounts and insurance, focusing on effective collections procedures to maintain cash flow for our growing Ophthalmology and Optometry practices. This role is perfect for someone who is a self starter and a team player. Your work will have a meaningful tangible impact on the business and our healthcare provider clients. We are looking for someone who knows the ins and outs of ophthalmic and optometric billing.

Our ideal Candidate Has:

  • Experience working in Ophthalmic and/or Optometric billing

  • Knowledgeable of business and accounting processes for medical billing practices usually obtained from an associate's degree, with a degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Health Care Administration preferred.

  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience in a medical billing setting

  • Experience with insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid and other payer requirements and systems.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment. Being able to triage priorities, delegate tasks if needed, and multi-task

  • Strong Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, collections. A calm manner and patience working with either patients or insurers during this process.

  • Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 Coding for vision and medical vision insurance

  • Ability to work with multiple practices

You will:

  • Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness, and obtaining any missing information.

  • Prepare, review, and transmit claims using providers billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing

  • Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe

  • Check on each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.

  • Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary

  • Research and appealing denied claims
