Job Description: Medical Billing Assistant
Job Status: Non-exempt, Full-time
Job Location: Physically based in Tualatin, Oregon.

Summary:
We are a busy, growing mental health clinic searching for a full-time billing assistant to join our team. While our primary focus is ADHD, we treat patients with a variety of mood disorders so knowledge of mental health benefits/billing is preferred, but not required. Employee should have a general knowledge of HIPAA and ability to comply with all applicable laws. We are looking for a long-term employee to be a part of a team of people who work closely together. Employee should demonstrate problem solving skills and excellent communication and have good attention to detail. This is a fun-loving group of folks to work with, so a sense of humor and desire to add to a friendly work place is essential!
Essential Functions:
Applying EOBs and ERAs for multiple commercial insurance companies and Medicaid
Applying patient payments into our EHR
Creating a day sheet of patient responsibility for the following day’s patients
Assisting the billing manager with:
Patient collections
Appeals and corrected claims
Preparing patient statements once per month
Calling insurance companies to follow up on denied claims or errors
Auditing patient accounts for accuracy
- Managing customer service calls as they pertain to the billing department
- Verifying patient insurance benefits
- Calling patients with large balances to set up payment plans
- Problem-solving and communicating solutions with patients
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
One year of medical billing experience
Familiarity with Coordination of Benefits (COB) and Medicaid
Proficient knowledge of Excel
Knowledge of HIPAA as it relates to medical billing
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to display sensitivity to the patient population being served
Ability to work autonomously
